Here come the tops

So it is that time of the year, when we start posting our Top Things of 2002. Today I shall start with movies. Here are my favourite movies of 2002, in no particular order:

- Ghost World (Terry Zwigoff): Excelent adaptation of Daniel Clowes' comic, a good movie that teaches us avoidants we are right and almost everyone else is a 'pseudo-bohemian loser'.

- Minority Report (Steven Spielberg): Perhaps the best science fiction since Blade Runner, despite Tom Cruise.

- The Pianist (Roman Polanski): Impressive WWII film that keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

- Femme Fatale (Brian de Palma): I've read a lot of bad reviews about this one, but for me it was the surprise movie of 2002.

- The Royal Tenenbaums (Wes Anderson): The 'American Amélie' with an all-star cast — which was nice.

You see, no Lord of the Rings, Star Wars or Spider-Man. The first two are good (the latter is utter disappointment), but I don't think they are 2002's best. Also, an honorable mention must go to Aparelho Voador a Baixa Altitude, the best Portuguese film I have seen in ages, and surely the best Portuguese science fiction ever.···

Some impressive images of natural accidents. These reminds me of a conference by a Spanish architect I once attended, he in which he displayed slides of buildings destroyed by earthquakes alongside images of works by architects such as Rem Koolhaas, Daniel Liebeskind or Peter Eisenman.···
