It's the sensor size, stupid!
Six megapixels is as good as it gets for compact digital photo cameras (typically with a 2/3” sensor), then it only gets worse. Anti-intuitive, but true: Sensor size is the real quality attribute, megapixels mean zilch. (via The Null Device)
