Level A synopsis
Reactions to that "some weblogs = masturbation in front of a mirror" thing. Deep Throat (isn't that related to Watergate?) said "can I hear p-e-d-a-n-t-i-c?", while the limey pointed out that "diaries and journals are personal and PRIVATE things" and "continuous babble on everyday routine makes crap reading, and that's a fact". Another anonymous said that I "have to stick a finger up other people's asses every now and then" while the detonador.net person questioned "why do people come home to write about their intimate lives in a medium that reaches more people than any normal person would meet everyday?". Yep, it's the big weblog schism all over again. Frankly, I strongly oppose the reality-show approach that is so popular among most blogs. One thing is to comment on daily happenings and to have an opinion (something even those annoying political 'warblogs' manage), another is to put repetitive and uninteresting details about your daily life on the internet and to somehow — somehow — get a following for that. In other words, if I honestly think reality-shows are utter crap, I can't say good things about weblogs that display the same kind of behaviour. Come on, blog about something interesting, will you? I know my life is dull, and it isn't that common by all means, so please. Blog about the books you read, about the records you listened to, about the coffeeshops where you hang out, about how much you hate or love some shows on television, or even about the stupidity of the Greater Porto public transportation. But please, leave your cat, your girl/boyfriend, and those "I spent the afternoon with A., B. and C. and it was nice" (forgetting what makes good writing — the really interesting details) outside. Everyone has a life. In most cases, a dull life. To constantly state your life is equally dull and 'normal' is stupid and even solipsistic. Blog about the differences, and you'll brighten your own and your readers' lifes. Just stop blogging mindlessly, and find your bloody voice! Anyway, a big bash of portuguese blogs is coming by the weekend. Just keep an eye in that place which is more proper for that sort of thing.···
